Born and educated in South Africa, Sacidevi dasi is well known for her bhajans and meditational kirtans. Having always been spiritually inclined, her debut stage performance was at the age of seven at the ‘birthday’ celebration festival of Lord Krishna. Thereafter she participated in many commercial concerts and fundraising programs in South Africa under the name Shashika Mooruth, receiving many blessings from religious organizations for her selfless contribution to Sanatana dharma. From a young age she felt a closeness to India - being her ancestral home. Having shared the stage in South Africa with eminent Indian music personalities from India, her desire to visit India and be a singer grew more intense. Her wish was eventually fulfilled when she settled in Mumbai, India in 1987. Gifted with a voice of devotion, Sacidevi dasi soon realized that she had a purpose ----- to spread the message of God throughout the world through her voice. She met her spiritual master HH Sacinandana Swami in 1997 and received initiation from him into the Vaisnava tradition. He also gave her the beautiful name Sacidevi dasi, instructing her to ‘Always sing for Krishna.’ This instruction and his further instruction to travel as much as possible and bring many souls to Krishna through her singing became a deep instruction in her heart. A graduate in Bachelor of Science from the University of South Africa, Sacidevi was also honored in 1995 at the World Hindu Conference in South Africa for her contribution to Indian devotional music. She now travels worldwide, singing and conducting seminars on the Vedic philosophy.. Among her many successful music albums is Swagatam Krishna and Sweet Chant. On asked whether she would like to sing commercial songs again she replied: "I will do it only if there is a Krishna conscious purpose behind it!"

"When I received my initiation from my spiritual master in Germany 2002, I flew back to Mumbai and that same morning an astrologer came to my home. It was very mysterious as he insisted on reading my astrological chart. My chart was never an impressive one and in fact astrologers always told me that there were many negative influences in my chart. I was so happy to be initiated and have a spiritual name that I was least bothered about my chart since I knew that my spiritual master gave me a new life and by following his instructions in serving Krishna, all negativities will be washed away. But the astrologer was persistent and eventually I gave in to his request. He looked at my chart and agreed that it was not so promising but suddenly he remarked: "You will travel to 108 countries with your music, singing to people about Krishna." I was amazed. This was never there in my chart before, but this was the instruction given to me by my Gurudeva at initiation and by Krishna's arrangement the astrologer had come to confirm the instruction! From that day I have made it my duty to always follow this instruction. Sometimes people ask me how I travel so much but deep in my heart I know that I am just an instrument in my Gurudeva and Krishna's hands and they are making every thing possible."
